Rejoice Autumn 2018

Pumpkins and Prayer Sunday 28th October 2018
A Christian alternative to Halloween, to celebrate All Saints, Sunday 28th October 5:00 - 6:30 pm Christ the King and St Colman church, Southampton SO18 5EG. Bring a pumpkin or a candle jar marked with Christian symbols to this celebration of God’s light in the darkness. Or just come and enjoy the candlelight. The event will start with a short prayer service and then hot dogs and soup will be served. This will be outside if the weather is dry so dress warmly. Free event but please support by donation.

Catholic Festival for all

Friday 23rd June to Sunday 9th July 2017
Rejoice Catholic festival is a free event for everyone. The aim is to share the Gospel, celebrate the Catholic faith and share the talents of the people in our wider church. Events will be held in Catholic parishes and schools across the area including Portswood, Bitterne, Woolston, Netley, Hedge End and West End. It is being organised by a team of people from Southampton East Catholic Pastoral Area.

The Festival Programme is::

Opening Event:
Fri 23rd June 7.30pm at Christ the King & St Colman Hall
Join prayers for the success of Rejoice and see what will be going on throughout the festival fortnight.
Add your name to the Flames of Faith art work and be prayed for throughout the festival.

Praise Party:
Fri 23rd June 8.30pm at Christ the King & St Colman Hall
A session of lively and inspiring worship music featuring Steve Szymanski and his band at Christ the King & St Colman Church Hall in Bitterne.

Welcome Day
Sat 24th June 10.30am – 4.00pm at St Patrick's School, Woolston
A faith, fun and activities day at St Patrick’s school, church and church hall, Woolston with different events for people of all ages. Includes: Christian resources Good News book stall; art and photographic show; fun faith-based activities for children; pop-up cafe serving tea/coffee & cake, 5-a-side fopotball tournament, puppet show, BBQ, 'flowers of the fields' paper flower making and other craft activities, prayer and faith based activities in the church. Free event but please support by donation.

Bike Ride:
Sun 25th June 12.30 till 2.30pm
Join members of the Rejoice team at the 'City Ride Southampton' cycle ride. Contact Chris Bick on 07562 417102 for details of the initial meeting place.


Walk by the Sea: 
Sun 25th June 2.30pm at The Annunciation, Netley

We will be meeting at the Annunciation church car park for a walk by the sea and through Royal Victoria Country Park. The walk will last approximately 90 minutes.

Difficult Conversations with the Church - Your questions answered: 
Mon 26th June – 7.30pm till 9pm at St Patrick's school hall, Woolston

Do you have questions about the Catholic Church or beliefs which you would like answered? A specially invited panel will be challenged to answer those questions. Submit your questions in advance and come along and hear the panel discuss the answers. Question boxes will be available at the Welcome Day on June 24th and in parishes or email the Rejoice email address by the end of June 24th.

Take a journey through the Holy Land in pictures at The Assumption hall. Find out also about future pilgrimages

Sensory Prayer: 
Tue 27th June 6pm till 9pm at Immaculate Conception, Portswood 

Explore different ways to pray which use all the senses. Drop in at any time during this session.

Talk by David Wells: 
Weds 28th June at 7.30pm at St Patricks Church, Woolston
David Wells is an internationally renowned speaker and writer with a real gift for humour and inspirational talks. In this session: Bruised, hurting and dirty; discipleship in the era of Pope Francis David will look at some aspects of our reluctance to be disciples of Jesus, and why in these days of political uncertainty, global insecurity, and local tensions it is time to ask ourselves,

“What are we waiting for?” If we don’t communicate God’s love, who will? See David@s Video below:

Party includes a BBQ and fireworks at the end of the evening. Food will be provided but bring your own drink. Free event but please support by donation.



'The God Factor’: 
Sat 1st July 6.00 – 9.00pm at Immaculate Conception Church, Portswood

A concert for the glory of God and to showcase the faith and talents of the people in our communities. We hope to include music, singing, dance, drama, poetry, readings, art work, videos. We particularly welcome young people to be involved but would love everyone to register and support this event. The 6 till 7pm slot will be for our youngest participants. To be held in Immaculate Conception church so anything performed must be suitable for God’s house.  Hot dogs or bacon rolls to be served in the hall before-hand from 5pm.

A spiritual exploration of the Star Wars saga. If you are a Star Wars fan, why not come in costume?

Rejoice Big Mass: Sun 9th July 4.00pm 
The festival finale will be Mass in the Mick Channon Suite at St Mary’s Stadium, Southampton. This is a ticketed (free) event. Contact the Rejoice team to obtain your ticket. Doors open at 3pm. Please share lifts if possible.  You can have a peek at the venue here
